Our mission is to know Jesus and to make him known”

What we believe

We are a mainstream Christian church and try to follow the teachings and example of Jesus Christ in all things. We are a Methodist church (though we welcome people from any denomination or none), and there are certain emphases in our Methodist tradition that make us distinctive. These are sometimes summarized as the ‘Four alls’:

  1. All need to be saved - ‘all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God’ (Romans 3:23). In other words, none of us is perfect!
  2. All can be saved - God ‘wants everybody to be saved and to understand the truth’ (1 Timothy 2:4). In other words, God’s love is accessible to everybody, not just some.
  3. All can know they are saved - God’s Holy Spirit ‘testifies with our spirits that we are God’s children (Romans 8:16). In other words, followers of Jesus Christ can have an assurance within them that they belong to God.
  4. All can be saved ‘to the uttermost’ - ‘we ... are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit’ (2 Corinthians 3:18). In other words, though God welcomes us as we are, he loves us too much to leave us that way.

So we are a church that is open to all. Beyond that, we are open to God’s renewing and transforming power.

We believe in the priesthood of all believers: all people come to God with the same rights and privileges and duties, whether we are lay or ordained. We value and emphasize the fact that God’s Holy Spirit gives gifts to all Christians. ‘Ordinary’ people have always played an important part in running the church.

Here’s what some of our fellowship say:

“To me following Jesus means...

“....... everything.  Even when I have failed Him He has always been there with me, in both the joys and the sorrows of life.”

“...everything!  He’s my Lord, my Saviour...my best friend!”
